His All-Holiness, Patriarch Aleksei II, received the Russian Orthodox Church in ruins. During the eighteen years of his reign these ruins were turned into beautiful temples to the Living God.
Now his successor, Patriarch Kirill, faces the enormous task of educating his flock in responsible Christianity. On the joyful occasion of his installation, we publish the address by Metropolitan Laurus to the annual conference of St. Tikhon’s Humanitarian University (2008). In this document, written shortly before his repose, Vladyka Laurus profoundly outlines the Orthodox teaching on catholicity (sobornost).
